No, you haven't just clicked on the website for Motor Boat and Yachting by mistake. This extraordinary-looking trimaran is called Earthrace, is 78ft long and is said to be one of the greenest and fastest long-distance powerboats on the planet.
What's all this got to do with hi-fi, you may ask? Well, as well as being amazingly fast, Earthrace is also incredibly noisy inside.
So the crew has been equipped with Sennheiser PXC 450 NoiseGard noise-cancelling headphones and the captain and navigators with HMEC 450 NoiseGard aviation communication headsets.
"We're delighted Sennheiser is supporting us," says Earthrace captain Pete Bethune. "This project wouldn't have been able to happen without their support."
More after the break
Bethune and his crew set off from Sagunto, Spain on April 27th in an attempt to break the round-the-world record of 75 days. The boat has many 'green' features, including low-emission engines which run on biofuel, non-toxic anti-foul and an efficient hull design.
In a brave display of commitment to the cause, Bethune even underwent liposuction to donate his own fat to be processed into biofuel!
The route takes Earthrace across the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans as it thunders 24,000 nautical miles along the planet's circumference at a maximum speed of 40 knots. If they succeed, Earthrace will be the first boat to break the record using only renewable fuel.
