NEWS: KEF rolls out revised KHT1005 package

This is the brand-new version of KEF's entry-level home cinema speaker package, first launched in 2004.

The £400 KHT1005.2 is the result of extensive reworking of the design to give better in-room dispersion and clarity, and comes complete with an all-new subwoofer, the Kube-1.

Also new for the second-generation speakers are a new finish - high-gloss black is now available in addition to the familiar KEF matt silver - and wall-brackets to increase the set-up options.

The main speakers use KEF's smallest Uni-Q drive units, formed with aerospace materials and placing the high-frequency driver in the 'throat' of the mid/bass unit for optimal dispersion. A 7.5cm woofer is combined with a 14mm aluminium tweeter, giving a frequency range of 100Hz-30kHz and power handling of up to 100W.

The new subwoofer combines a 20cm bass unit with a similarly-sized auxiliary bass radiator - a passive drive unit designed to enhance low frequencies - and a 150W Class D amplifier. It's claimed to deliver bass down to 38Hz, and measures just over 29cm in each dimension. It's finished in black with a gloss top surface.
