NEWS: Archos upgrades 405 portable media player to 30GB

Archos is expanding its G5 range of personal media players (PMP) with a new 30GB version of its 405 model, available from the end of this month for £150.

It can hold up to 40 films, 300,000 photos or 15,000 songs, the company claims. And if that's not enough, the optional Archos DVR station allows owners to use the device as a digital video recorder to store and then view their favourite TV programmes on the unit's 3.5in screen.

Other accessories include the DVR travel adapter to record analogue audio and video sources on the move, a docking station for transferring photos directly from a digital camera via USB, and portable speakers.

The 405 30GB can also be customised with additional plug-ins, such as the cinema plug-in for playing MPEG2/VOB video files, and a podcast module for playing video podcasts in H.264 MPEG4 format with AAC audio.

The original 405 was introduced last autumn in a 2GB version.
