Our sister site Stuff.tv is reporting rumours that there may be a new iPhone on the way, just six months after the iPhone 3G appeared on the scene.

Evidence has emerged of the latest firmware upgrade for Apple's all-conquering phone, prompting speculation that a new model may be in the works.

MacRumors has found reference to iPhone 2.1, a major advance over the current 1.2 edition. Apple often uses these leaps in number to distinguish between new models, as happened with the change from iPod Touch 1.0 to iPod Touch 2.0 last year.

So what might we expect? There's no concrete evidence just yet, but the hot money's on more storage, a better camera, a screen to rival that  of the HTC Touch HD and maybe even that much sought after copy and paste function. Watch this space.

stefanr Apple, Blackberry do you have any other fruit appliances...

I bet you are on the Orange network

Flash, Copy & Paste and maybe a set of side buttons for iPod controls so that you don't have to use the GUI when changing tracks when you're using it as an iPod!

MMS via free apps are a painful experience at best, and for a phone like this, criminal it wasn't included in the first place.

Exclusion of copy and paste, another criminal offence for the price. So lets hope, if they truly want to maintain No.1 (now debatable) they sort these fumdamentals plus flash for safari would be a welcome addition, longer battery life and a decent camera, otherwise the other phones will quickly regain their ground and muscle the iPhone out. I had one briefly but soon reverted back to Blackberry and that's the way it's staying until they (apple) get it right.

fido87456 - you can MMS from a free application available on iPhone.

hopefully including MMS so I can finally buy one!

Would seem believeable. Apples head of marketing suggested the iPhone product refresh cycle is June time. The first phone appeared in June 07 and the 3G was announced in June 08.
