IFA NEWS: Toshiba's new Regza ZF TVs have built-in cell processor upscaling
Toshiba has eschewed the slimline looks and LED backlighting technology championed by rivals Sony and Samsung at IFA, and has opted instead for adding enhanced picture upconversion capabilities to its new range of Regza ZF TVs.
The ZF series is the first to get Toshiba's Resolution+ technology which uses a cell processor algorithm to provide greater image detail, or so the company claims.
"By employing cutting-edge image-enhancing technologies, standard-definition sources are scanned and upconverted to near-HD quality, providing viewers with crisper images that are richer in detail. The results are truly impressive, with enhanced pictures that verge on high-definition quality."
That's quite a claim, so we'll be checking out the new sets on the Toshiba stand tomorrow.
Other technical highlights of the LCD ZF range include Toshiba's Active Vision M100 HD 100Hz picture processing, Full HD 1920 x 1080p panels, support for 24fps, a claimed Dynamic Contrast ratio 30,000:1 and Audyssey Equaliser sound technology, designed to deliver a fuller sound at low volumes.
The Regza ZF series is available in 40in (shown) and 46in screen sizes, with both models having a Freeview digital tuner, four HDMI inputs and providing full support for Toshiba's Regza-Link consumer electronics control (CEC) system. UK prices have yet to be confirmed.

The alleged October date has long since gone!!
Don't all LCDs upconvert in some way, to get a 768 or 1080 picture from SD?
Better quality Sky/Virgin SD pics. If it's true and Tosh improves their current picture standard, there'll be a lot of takers for this one.
