CES 2009: Disney boosts Blu-ray Disc with more titles and Combo Packs

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is boosting its Blu-ray Disc offering in 2009 with the arrival of a range of titles old and new during the year, from High School Musical 3 to Platinum Editions of both Pinocchio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The Combo Pack concept – Blu-ray Disc and DVD copies of the title in a single pack, which WDSHE debuted with Sleeping Beauty's 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition in selected markets - will be extended to more titles.

And buyers in the US and Canada will also get a DisneyFile digital copy of the movie for use on Macs, PCs or compatible portable devices. The company says that "Digital copies will be made available in both iTunes and Windows Media file formats and are set to be included with such titles as High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Monsters Inc., and A Bug's Life."

High School Musical 3: Senior Year is released as a Combo Pack in the States on February 17, with Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition on March 10, with the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Platinum Edition in October.

Back catalogue titles set for a US release include Pretty Woman (February 10) and High School Musical Remix Edition (February 17), with Lost: The Complete First and Second Seasons, Sin City, Sling Blade, Pulp Fiction Special Edition, Good Will Hunting Special Edition and many more to follow in 2009.

In the UK, releases include Space Buddies and High School Musical 3: Senior Year in February, Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition in March and Beverly Hills Chihuahua in April, with Monsters, Inc. later in the year.
