Bose puts the home cinema into the TV with the £6000 VideoWave

In Paris today Bose has announced the VideoWave entertainment system, a product that it says 'redefines home entertainment'.
Essentially this is a 46in LCD TV with a home cinema amplifier and speakers built right into the chassis. Simply feed your source into the external head unit, and the audio and video signals are then sent to the display device.
The sound is produced by a complicated arrangement of drivers. Bass comes from six woofers that are fed by a new version of Bose's waveguide device, an array of seven, smaller, carefully placed drivers create the mid-range, while an intriguing PhaseGuide unit handles treble.
This combination of drivers creates a virtual surround experience that's tailored to your room using the ADAPTiQ auto calibration system.
Bose has also come up with an entirely new type of remote: the 'click pad'.
Rather than bombard you with buttons, the click pad has a touch-sensitive area that brings all relevant controls up on the screen as a frame around whatever you're watching. You then simply run your finger to the one you want and push down to activate it.
The Bose VideoWave will cost £6000 when it goes on sale in October.

And to the people already slating this product without hearing it. Bose does not claim to be the best best sound.
This system, although expensive, sees Bose doing what it promised – to make things easier for people. Unsurprisingly, Bose found that not everyone wants to wire up and mount a whole bunch of speakers around their living room, and also unsurprisingly, that they don’t know how to calibrate the sound, and want fewer remotes.
What they are doing for this target market is brilliant. If on the back of this it causes more manufacturers to sell cheaper alternatives this is excellent.
Hey all,
Check out my review of this product today

its a break through to say the least,
Goyo....it's an LCD screen.
Fair point Tom, but video is not Bose's forte. A few reviews have already appeared online. Will be interesting to see what WHF thinks of it....
Don't hold back, shadiest.tripod - say what you really feel...
WOW. think i could put something quite special together with 6 grand, it wouldnt be from Bose though. Nice and easy for those who dont really know any better though and just want simple plug and play.
I actually think Bose makes some nice stuff. It's not equipment one might use in a reference system, but for everyday use, they make good products. Especially the headphones.
My initial thought on this TV is that it's too expensive for a TV that is under 50 inches. Also, I can't imagine that it would sound better than a decent 5.1 setup. I am also curious as to the type of TV it is, is it plasma, lcd, led?
Why do we need to wait for the review to pass judgement? ALL Bose gear is over-priced. poorly engineered, poorly made junk with ultra cheap component parts.
The only thing they EVER do that is "carefully placed" is there steamroller of a marketing strategy!!
The only thing more ridiculous than the 6k asking price are the people who proclaim Bose to be a specialist manufacturer.
Forget Naim, Sugden, Moon, Rega, Rotel etc, EVEN B&O put Bose to shame (and i'm not keen on B&O either!!!)
Hi big boss,
Not sure who's been telling you it's 'average at best', but the system has only been announced today and we're amongst the first to see it, and I wouldn't want to judge it on the short time we've had with it.
As for 'ugly', it's certainly deep, but front-on you'd have no idea it was anything but a standard flatscreen, and considering the electronics and speakers that are on board, that's interesting in itself.
Let's wait until we get it in for review before passing judgement, eh?
I can't see how this ugly beast is going to succeed! Apparently, the video performance is average at the best. Bose needs to learn a thing or two from Loewe...
