Now here's a story to get our Forum posters twittering. Blue Horizon, a new company specialising in professional-grade audio acccessories, has unveiled its first product – the Proburn, a 'cable burn-in accelerator'.

'A what?' you may ask. Well, the Proburn is a device designed to speed up the burn-in process of audio cables, we're told.

The company claims that using a Proburn will enable you to burn in your cables in around 24-48 hours, rather than the months that it would usually take for cables to reach their full audio potential.

"It's a well-known fact that audio cables improve with use," says Blue Horizon.

"A hard, closed-in sound with a distinct lack of bass are the qualities most noted when a cable is new; a cable that has been 'burned in' will sound more open, extended and three-dimensional, with a more natural, less sterile performance."

Unlike most purpose made, burn-in CDs the Proburn doesn't just synthesise music. It also sends a series of ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies through the cables which penetrate both the core of the conductor and the cable's dielectric.

By conditioning all aspects of the cable at higher frequencies than those achievable with any burn-in CDs or devices currently available on the market, the burn-in process is much quicker, claims Blue Horizon.

The Proburn comes in black and orange or silver colour schemes and retails at £695.

Expansion modules for additional cable types, including video cables, BNC-terminated cables and turntable tonearm cables, will be available soon. You read it here first.

Before posting I thought I'd to a little research, turns out cable burn-in machines exist but at 3K !

So the price doesn't seem unreasonable given the above 'bench mark' price and I guess relatively small production runs.

More over it is an acknowledge fact that cable burn-in is important, in fact What Hi-Fi? have awarded such burn-in discs 5-Stars historically.

Turns out that playing a music CD or a 'burn-in' CD will only deliver a small frequency to the cable due to compression where as this device offers 10,000 the upper frequency.

I guess some people like red wine from a carton and are happy to drink it from a plastic cup. Others like to decant a bottle and drink from a glass. If I was passionate about wine I know what I'd prefer !

If you run 'bell wire' in your system then this product has very little merit, however there are a lot of people who are passionate about their music and have invested huge amounts in cables, I'd say a product like this would be of great interest.

Has April 1st been extended by about 6 weeks this year...?

because they (the man) can charge you extra if its optional russ andrews charges 15GBP a cable for the hassle also some manufactures freeze there cables

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha indeed! if only I was an MP???
