BBC One HD goes live tonight at 7pm

Update 03.11.10
BBC One's dedicated high-definition channel begins broadcasting tonight, starting at 7pm with The One Show, followed by Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention at 7.30pm.
Details of the rest of the schedule are outlined in our earlier story below.
Published 21.10.10
The BBC has confirmed that its full-time BBC One HD channel will launch on November 3rd, carrying a full BBC One schedule.
The first night's programming will include The One Show, Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention, food programmes from Nigel Slater and Jimmy Doherty, The Apprentice and Film 2010.
And the BBC has announced that EastEnders will go HD on Christmas Day, following Holby City, which is already on the BBC HD channel, but will switch to BBC One HD when the new channel is live.
The new channel will simulcast BBC One, with the majority of the primetime schedule in HD. Programmes not made in HD will be upscaled, although some – such as regional news – will not be shown on BBC One HD so viewers will have to switch back to the SD channel.
The BBC HD channel will continue, bringing content from BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four, and it's expected that by 2012 the vast majority of programmes on the new BBC One HD channel will be originated in HD.
BBC One HD will be available on Freesat channel 108, Freeview channel 50, Sky channel 143 and Virgin Media channel 108, with the BBC HD channel moving to Freesat channel 109, Freeview channel 54, Sky channel 169 and Virgin Media channel 187.

BBC should invest in decent programming, four SD channels of mainly rubbish, before investing in HD
fantastic, looking forward to sitting down in front of the new HD tv and seeing the difference.
Rubbish in high definition - great! I really resent my license fee, BBC should go subscription
Now then , can we have C4 and FIVE on Freesat please ! No !! Worth a try though eh.
Finally after most of the western world tv broadcast companies already have 24/7 HD channels for ages.......
The issue with the news is due to the local news, on Sky for example there is not 1 BBC One channel but a whole lot of them (971 to 98
and one is mapped to 101 based on your postcode.
BBC One HD, as far as I know, is only 1 channel so during the local news there is no way to "temporarly map" the right local BBC one SD to the HD channel on the box. So the only option is to display "Please swith to BBC One SD for your local news".
The information below is taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone/hd/faq/ & shows that some programmes will not be shown on BBC 1 HD - including BBC News on BBC 1 HD:
"Will I be able to watch the news on BBC One HD?
Not at the time of launch. We do - and will - broadcast some individual news events in HD (e.g. General Election, Obama Inauguration, events from the Papal visit, Remembrance Day). It is expected that BBC News will being working from our new HD-ready news centre in 2012/13."
"What will be shown if some programmes cannot be upscaled?
Where it is not possible to show a programme in HD, or upscaled standard definition, we will provide information for viewers to allow them to find the programme on the standard definition channel. We will not be broadcasting an alternative programme."
So instead of doing what ITV, Channel 4, Sky 1 & Five have done the BBC is NOT showing all programmes on its BBC 1 HD service. Seems to me that BBC, has seen that they are the only terrestrial channel not in HD & desperately wanted to put something out, before it is really ready to do so.
The FAQ answers more questions about the BBC 1 HD launch.
Not so David123456. The BBC One HD channel starts broadcasting at 7pm tonight with a full schedule, and it's already showing on my Virgin EPG.
Presumably Sky will update its planner later today.
Well, it is November 3rd and I cannot find anything at all on the Sky planner for BBC 1 HD (Ch 143) or the new BBC HD channel (Ch 169)?? Word I have been hearing is that instead of doing what ITV, Channel 4, Sky 1 & Channel Five have done (simulcast channel showing all programmes) BBC 1 HD will only show selective programmes and at other times a blank screen with a simple message - eg all BBC News. Seems yet again that the BBC is offering a half way house BBC 1 HD channel.
WIll Sky finally give us the opportunity to ditch the SD channels and move the HD ones in place? 101, 102 etc. The HD versions of BBC1, ITV1, C4, FIVE and then SKY1 are so spread about, its frustrating....
For a second I thought the Headline said BBC one 3D channel goes live, and I was going to make some remark involving jumping and bandwagons...oh well
See – knew you'd be excited, tvmog...
Please please please no stupid channel ident plastered over the picture this time....don't hold out much hope though.
