I've written a fairly extensive blog entry about my new Mac mini-based media centre with an LG TV and AktiMate Maxi active speakers, so I thought I'd link to it from here as some may find it interesting:

Hi matt,

A very interesting read there. You mentioned comparing the Aktimates to a traditional separates system, could you expand more on what that system was and how the Aktimates bettered it?

I'm considering decluttering my system and going down the active route, with the Maxis being at the top of my list, hence the questions Tongue.

Thanks

The traditional separates system consisted of Epos M5i speakers with a Marantz amplifier - either a PM5003 or a PM6003. This system did sound really good, but each time I went back to the AktiMates I was amazed by how much better they sounded. With the AktiMates I felt they had a great frequency coverage including an extremely impressive bass, the stereo image was broader and had better definition, and there was more overall clarity and detail. They introduced a greater sense of depth and openness and made the music incredibly engaging both emotionally and in terms of detail.

These speakers are great bits of hi-fi at an amazing price in my opinion, and I would most definitely recommend auditioning them. It would be interesting to know whether you do end up going with the AktiMates as part of your decluttering process.
