Re: Current Setup

Looks good.

How are those RS5s then? (I have only ever heard RS3s and R3s)

Will we see one of these in your system soon?

[edit] I just noticed you have the RS5s with bass firing in. Your old R3s were firing out last time I saw your system.

Re: Current Setup

The RS5's have a lot more weight and control to the bass.  Bit too much for me (going back on thursday, early).

Suit a much much bigger room, still thats the point in a home dem.  The bass ports are facing inwards to try and tame the beasts.  Problem is the are big and impose too much on the room and my amp never ever now goes past 7 0 clock on the dial ,so not realy using either amp or speaker to full potential.

One off the list,  next up #PMC TB2i and PMC FB1i.

Going to demo the Rega DAC @ 1100 next Tuesday morning when it arrives in.  ONly problem is it will be cold and not run in............

back to back demo with the Naim DAC

Given all that you just said (about bass), a DB1i vs GB1i demo might be a better idea in your room.

(Can Nick get a pair of SA1s for you to try? I reckon they'd hit the spot without any bass problems and make your amp work harder.)

Re: Current Setup

Heard the DB1's and whilst beautifully transparent and extremely articulate given their size, they were just a little too polite for my system.............which is where I am hoping the GB1i or TB2i will fit in.  Given that I will require stands as well they will both set me back about the same

Re: Current Setup

Nope never, not sure my local dealer stocks them but I will ask when I go in next Tuesday, thanks for the heads up

One of the other reasons I will not be getting the RS5's is that the sound differential between what I have now does not justify the increase in price.

Fingers crossed for the PMC's

Re: Current Setup

Thet are going back today, simply too big for the space both sonically and physically.  Also my amp was restricted to 7 to 9 oclock listening, not good.

These are great speakers but need a large room to fill.

Oh well the hunt continues.................

Re: Current Setup

No REGA DAC as yet, they have rejected 500 cases, should be in close to XMAS Sad

Still at least I will hear the Naim DAC tomorrow with PMC DB1i's and GB1i's. Smile

Re: Current Setup

Right, on the back of the "no REGA DAC" demo.

Good news and bad news

Good news - Have finally found my next speaker - PMC GB1i's - So natural unforced detailed

Bad news - I hope the rega DAC is good because the N Dac was exceptional.

Shall see.

Re: Current Setup

True Blue -i would be interested in your opinion of the Rega DAC in relation to your saturn CDP. I don't own a saturn but borrowed one from a friend for a month - lovely. I am looking for a DAC but cannot afford the Naim, so im not even going to demo it! However, I might take a punt on the firestone spitfire DAC and buy blind for £150 - i do realize it is not in the same league as the rega or Niam. I am struggling to get a demo of the rega DAC (audio T) - no one seems to have them in stock.
