Where do you normally source your s/h purchases?
Anyone who will give him stuff for nowt
True, yes, got some brilliant free stuff (Sony S9000ES, Acoustic Energy AE2s, Eclipse TD0508s, My Sony TT bits/cartridge) but most of my purchases are hifi forum classifieds / ebay.
I tend to buy blind, as I dont mind trying stuff I might not like, and usually sell it on if it does not work or fancy something else.
The Maggies were bought 'New / Sealed' off Gumtree, just happened to come across the listing, again bought blind but were on my long term 'to-do-list'.
Had a few pairs of speakers that needed repair (AE2's, Kord Vulcan, KEF 104/2) that I have got really cheap then sold on for minimal profit to other forum members.
Also had a few end of the line/ex demo stuff like the Rega R7 and Rega Brio3, both bargains and the R7's more so. Helped when I was working in the industry!
All of the DIY stuff has been various sources, the recent Veravox drivers are from a wanted ad I placed on a DIY forum, some of the other driver have been bought new from European sources, the Hawthorne Audio OB drivers direct from the USA.
Majority of my Amps and Sources have been purchased from Forum Classifieds.

Pretty ... and pretty proud of it
Its all a bit of fun really, slowly getting there towards an overall compromise, I keep coming back to valve amps (EL84 based)
Started to play around with some room correction in the form of some Foam Bass Traps, very cheap upgrade (£90 for the 2-pairs) and has noticably made it more even in the bass response and some improvement in the soundstage definition.
Sort of asking, why I never thought of trying it sooner!
I think I will look into some of the GIK panels at some point in the future, eyeing up the Antimode Dual Core at the moment
Some further developments.
Some perminant stands were added, of Heybrook vintage.
And a new Pre-Amplifier in the shape of a Doge 8. Its a Chinese Tube Preamp, pretty well reviewed in the USA. Will be partnering the Decware Zen when its finished.
Sounding very good indeed and plenty of scope for Tube Rolling with 4x 12AX7 and 4x 12AT7 inside! Lovely build/remote too.

Getting the greatest hits assembled slowly, just the Decware to go now.
May look at another Subwoofer in the future depending on how I get on, and of course a TT as well but thats not a priority.
The Zen is progressing:
Progress as of last week:
Hopefully might have it finished by the end of the week!
All other components wired in..... just waiting for tag board:
All complete and testing:
Up and running:
Looks great,how does it sound?
Music: Yamaha MCR-140 / Cambridge Audio Minx Go
Movies: LG 32LN5400 / Sony BDP-S1100
I think, much the same as the previous Decware built Decware Zen although different CDP/Pre and Speakers! Only had it on for 3hrs so far last night and enjoyed it but that was 3hrs from being built.
I cant take all the credit, a friend and member on another forum did all the design/layout and planning, I just copied his prototype.
This is the amp its based on:
Its a slightly different earlier revision with uprated power and output transformers.
This is my favorite thread on this site. I have just finished reading, I can't wait for the next instalment. Very interesting, addictive in fact. Thanks for sharing and letting us into your HiFi world. I think my favorite portion was the way you documented the progress of the decware. I hope you continue to enjoy your hobby for many years to come.
I have some bits of HiFi
