WI-FI Security On Mobile Phones

Hi,

 Can anyone tell me how secure it is to browse internet content on a mobile phone using WI-FI or 3G / GPRS?

I was hoping to be able to access my bank details from time to time while on the move but wouldn't want to do this if it wasn't as secure as doing the same from my home computer.
