Hello,

I have read many articles about using a NAS for streaming. What I would like to know whether it is possible or advisable to use a PC to do this job, or does it have to be a specific NAS device? Also I am thinking of buying new AV Amp with networking the Onkyo tx-nr609, so I would use the pc/nas device for streaming films & the onkyo for radio. Thanks for your help.

a NAS is a storage device. most systems stream from it. you still need something to play the data.

so out of your options mentioned you need a PC.

thanks for your reply. I understand what you say, but I want to use a pc as the storage device & then stream to the tv, my wireless radio or laptop. the question is, is that possible or do I have to use a specific device?

it is a PC so if you have suitable software then it will work just like a PC.

I misread this. You want to stream radio using a NAS?

You normally use a NAS to store your own music/videos. Then you need something to play this media like a media streamer or a DLNA equipped amp. Plenty of media streamers offer internet radio.
