Help me please!! Having waited ages to move home and decorate, I am on the verge of being able to set up my home cinema system. However, the rear speakers are not going to be in a decent position unless they are wall mounted and there is no way I'm going to get away with wires weaving their way up to them. Does anyone know of a wireless solution I could use? I thought Kef did one but a dealer has advised me it is only compatible with said manufacturer's speakers.

Any advice would be gratefully received, as soon as poss, so I can enjoy my kity over Xmas!

Cheers,

 Dudders

Can't you chase in the speaker cable that is going to be shown leading up the wall?

Your dealer was incorrect. The KEF system is universal and will work with any speakers.

Hi people!

Many thanks for the replies to date. I'm glad Gary has proved that I can still read accurately! Re chasing the cables, I missed a trick, as we had most of the living room re-plastered, so should have thought about  it then. If I suggested it now, I suspect my time on the forums will rapidly expire!!

Cheers again!

It would still be much cheaper than getting the wireless rears, and you would not have to worry about difficulties in upgrading as you could just replace the speakers.

What my dealer did when he fitted my rears was run the QED SA wire up the corners of the room using caulking to hold it in place.
Then he ran it along the ceiling coving and dropped it down to the speakers, which are sited about 5" below the ceiling.

It's hardly noticeable. It is said that you get a much better sound off hard wired speakers than wireless ones, but I wouldn't know.

Hi Trevor, thanks for replying.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is caulking? I am still interested in having the speakers wired, as I suspect it will result in a better sound (and be cheaper).

Cheers,

Dudders

If I may be of assistance caulking is a filler that decorators tend to use to fill unsightly cracks and blemishes to walls and around window and door frames etc

This can of course be over painted with emulsion or whatever to leave a perfect clean finish

It would IMHO be better applied over the cable which has alredy been  carefully prefixed up the corner of the  wall.

The best method of application would be by using a tube of caulk attached to a sealant gun, the nozzle of which cut at a jaunty angle to a preferred bead width to cover the cable

This is then smoothed over by a wet thumb or applicator to a desired finish

This caulk would be ready for overpaiting within a few hours depending on the thickness of the bead.

This stuff is available fom all good hardware stores and a couple of tubes and a gun can be had for less than a tenner.

Hope this helps.

Hi johnnymunro,

What a wicked reply - not only do I find out what caulking is but I get the instructions to do the job as wel!! Really appreciate it. I think this may be a solution that's cheaper than going wireless and I may even get it approved by my better half!

Thanks again,
