There appears to be no digital output, nor analogue input on the S5 (now called Play:5), so I can only conclude 'no'. It is mean to be an all-in-one.
The Sonos ZP90 is suitable for an external DAC, as you will see from several threads elswhere on this site.

No, why would you want to????? it would have to have a digital out and an anologue in to work which is a bit bizarre

Correction to my earlier reply, although there is an analogue input, there is no digital out, so no external DAC is possible.
