Setting up squeezebox duet
Hello all,
After months of anticipation I finally bought the squeezebox duet but I cannot set it up! I think it might be a problem with my wifi router but I am not sure. The first steps went ok: I could find the wifi network and the squeezebox receiver. Then problem is that the squeezebox cannot connect to the music source. I use the following set up:
- wifi router: D-link system DIR-301
- windows Vista
- Anti-virus: Avast
I have the same kind of issue when using winamp: I cannot access my music remotely.
Does somebody have a solution to this problem? Thanks a lot in advance!
same thing with sonos. had to turn offt he avg firewall. or it couldnt see the music. everything else was fine.
you have shared the music folder?
the music folder is shared, the windows firewall is turned off however I do not know if there is a firewall with avast I am going to check it out latter
No mention of installing Squeezeserver here I notice...?
JohnDuncan:No mention of installing Squeezeserver here I notice...?
I've always found Squeezebox terminology a bit confusing - Squeezecentre?... Squeezeserver?... are they the same thing?
If so, I've made the assumption that the OP has installed Squeezecentre and scanned his computer to allow Squeezecentre to find his music.
Same thing - sorry, Squeezecenter is the current correct term i think.
Yeah, I'm just questioning that assumption since he didn't say it (still think the problem'll be the firewall though).
I have installed squeezecenter and i followed all the instructions: all was fine until i tried to connect the box with the music source. I do not have time now to make some trials but i do not see anyother firewall than the basic windows firewall, which was set up by squeezecentre to allow the connection withe box.
It may have failed. Turn off the firewall, see what happens - if music found, turn it on again (before the entire world ravages your hard disk*) and explore the firewall settings to see what's not letting you connect.
What antivirus software do you have (it could have a firewall in it)?
*this is a lie

Double check your firewall and see if your Avast anti-virus is also doing firewall duty. If so, turn off and let Windows do that for your pc. Also go into your settings and allow your firewall to let anything starting with Squeeze through it.
From the Squeezebox FAQs:
Windows: Windows XP Service Pack 2 turns on a built-in firewall by default. You will need to configure the firewall to allow access to Slim Server. To do this:
Go to Control Panel
Click Security Center
Click Windows Firewall under 'Manage security settings for:'
Click the Exceptions tab
You will then need to add three exceptions for these ports by clicking 'Add Port...':
Port number: 3483 (TCP) - Name: SlimServer Control
Port number: 3483 (UDP) - Name: SlimDiscovery
Port Number: 9000 (TCP) - Name: SlimServer Web
Third-party Firewalls: Examples of third party software firewalls include: Brickhouse, Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Security Center, PC-Cillin, BlackIce, McAfee Security Center, ZoneAlarm. You will need to configure your firewall software o r hardware to allow connections to ports 3483, 9000 and 9090 for both UDP and TCP connections. Refer to the instructions that came with your firewall for details.
Of no use to the OP. But just for balance. I bought a squeezebox duet today. my avi speakers hopefully coming end of next week. i had squeezecentre already downloaded. i didnt read the instructions. just plugged it all in. using pc active speakers in another room. the walkthru on the hanset took a minute and it worked straight off. as it kept saying. found so and so do u want to use so and so. i had my fingers crossed that it would stuff me in the end. but. no. it went perfect.
and the wife loves using it already. imagine when the avi 9.1s arrive shes going to be blown away. she hasnt heard them.
just to add im on vista
After some fiddling around I managed to connect the Squeezebox to the squeezeCenter via wifi however I cannot control the box with the remote: I have only "Playing now" and "Parameters" showing on my remote screen. So far I can only contol the music via the laptop, which is far from ideal. Thanks for your help anyway, it is getting better!
sorry for your troubles mate. i have no idea why it was so easy for me. im not tekky. and was really worried.
i was due a bit of luck tho.

Do you have an iPod touch or an iPhone?
get the App iPeng. trouble free controlling (ish).

arno - can you access internet radio using your squeezebox?
I had the same problem as you - I couldn't see my music library on Squeezebox but internet radio worked.
The problem was I had two firewalls enabled (Windows and Norton). As soon as I disabled the Norton then everything worked fine.
