PC speakers (i'm a newbie please be gentle!)
Hi all,
Apologies if you've already discussed this topic but I've been doing some research on this for a few days and I haven't really found what I'm looking for and I'm quite confused now as I'm a complete newbie.
I'm basically looking for some decent speakers for my laptop, i'm no audiophile but if i wanted something nasty I'd just keep using the internal speakers...
The problem is that I want them to be wireless. I've been looking at the following products but I'm not completely convinced for the reasons I'm going to describe:
Bose Soundlink
This would do the trick, however I'm not convinced for 2 reasons, first is that I would like to avoid USB dongles (bad experiences in the past, they become loose, they're pretty annoying as well) and second I'm not sure that the sound quality is particularly good for what they cost (please correct me if I'm wrong)
Sonos S5
No USB dongle so that'd be better (also cheaper than the above), however these are not designed to be speakers for PCs so they're restricted in what you can play (couldn't hear anything from spotify or youtube for instance, which would be a problem for me)
AW1 wireless adapter + pair of good speakers
This would probably be my ideal option because the quality of sound would be the best and I could use the speakers with my TV as well, however I'm really turned off by the massive USB dongle (it looks like you always need to keep your laptop on a table, which I never do). Is there something similar using my wifi network instead of a dedicated dongle?
Could anybody offer any advice? Perhaps there are alternatives I'm not thinking of? Or the product I'm looking for just does not exist?
Many thanks everybody
thanks for your reply... that looks pretty much what I'm looking for except that it seems that it would only play songs that are on itunes (which I don't even use), whereas I'm looking for something that would just play every sound my pc produces? Any ideas? Thx
Just add Airfoil (software) to Andrew's suggestion and job done.
Don't use PC speakers but do use apple express with airfoil to stream just about everything to my system and about to add a second apple express for a bedroom headphone system and it all works a treat.
Got a three room Sonos system at home and going the apple express route isn't quite as "seamless" but it works without any real problems.
I stream Napster Spotify Real Networks Winamp Foobar (FLAC files my PC) Airfoil just "hijacks" the audio stream and your PC and away you go.
that's very helpful, I had no idea this airfoil software existed, I'll look into it, sounds like a viable option
do you guys know if something similar exists for sonos and/or squeezebox?
thanks again!
I've got Bose speakers. Simple, hassle free & excellent sound.

Apple's Airport Express and some powered speakers could be the answer. Audioengine's A2 and A5 models might be a good starting point.
