connecting a BDP S770 to my router

Not sure if anyone can offer any online advice regarding the problems I am having with my router?  I connected the Blu-ray to the home network last week and then for some reason it just stopped working.  I have tried telling the router which is a Speedtouch 7G (old I know), to use a static IP address for the BLU-RAY.  The router recognises the blu-ray but shows it as inactive.  Every time I try and connect it fails - mainly with the internet connection as opposed to the network connection.  I have tried turning off my firewall but still it doesn't see to connect.  Do I just need to throw the router out or is there a secret solution somewhere??
