My mother lives out in the sticks in rural Shropshire, and was having speed problems with her broadband from TalkTalk. It would start out first in the morning at 6.5Mbps and gradually slow down throughout the day until it got to 0.2Mbps around 6pm and be completely useless. Looking on their forums it seems this is a common problem for ex-Tiscali customers who got moved over to TalkTalk.

After repeated talks with the customer support (based in India) and a TalkTalk engineer coming out they said there was nothing they could do, and it was probably congestion at the exchange !

Not happy with this I swapped her over to BT and now her broadband is a steady 6.5Mbps all day, so she can know watch iplayer/youtube without problems.

The lesson - dont believe everything your ISP tells u and if not happy - change ur supplier.

Yeah it's very frustrating - ISPs always blame BT, the exchange, your line, the pole it's on... always fobbing you off.
