Erdem- from Texas: PCM Issues

Got Samsung LED TV. IT only send audio out thru PCM. I have 4 years old Yahama receiver. I connected it to Samsung last night thru optical cable -no HDMI in Yamaha. I get broken voise (intermittent). As PCM light blinks as the audio gets broken. Can you PLEASE tell if a) cable problem? I trieed another cable it is not sending light at all. b) is this a format incompatibility. I appreciate your help and guidance.
