Music that hasn't dated too well
English

Some older music still sounds quite modern, like some of the Kinks, Beatles, Stevie Wonder (early 70s albums), Isley Brothers (70s), Thin Lizzy etc etc.

The flipside, I find electro pop of the 80s (Depeche Mode, OMD and numerous others of that period) sounds outmoded in the extreme.

Tell me what tracks/artists/albums haven't weathered too well.

That "Eurodance" stuff from the early 90s. Argh!  Smile  Also most things from S.A.W. ...

Can't agree.

I think it's a highly subjective thing.

In fact I was listening to Yazoo, Depeche Mode and Flock of Seagulls just the other day Smile

On the other hand, I used to like the rock band Magnum. I have most of their albums...Listening now just makes me cringe they are so cheesy.

Yeah, I'm listening to more and more 80s electronica these days as well. Good, clean sound, tight basslines, all good.

It's 60s and 70s stuff that I can't listen to much any more, with some limited exceptions.

are you saying that you don't listen to some music because the sound production doesn't flatter on your hi-fi?

No, I'm saying I don't listen to some music because I don't like it.

I've said before that I've long believed I don't really like music, I like interesting sounds, particularly up-front basslines ("real" or synthesized) and analogue synth type noises (not solely limited to that though) and bog-standard pop/rock doesn't tend to make too many of those, most 70s music is very traditional and doesn't do anything that catches my ear, so I don't listen to it. The production on 80s electronic music tends to make a virtue of the things I do like, so it's no real surprise that I'm drawn to that.

I am a Punk fan and have a lot of rare vinyl, mostly 7", in the loft. I get it out from time to time to enjoy a bit of nostalgia and to educate my son about DIY music  as opposed to XFactor music. I can tell you that a lot of this has dated very poorly and is sometimes unlistenable-Grimace. Nontheless it is still worth a listen.

In van I've got XTC 'Best of' and that sounds pretty awesome.

' English Settlement' is a gem. One of the (very) few albums that I enjoy all the way through.

RE: Music that hasn't dated too well

I enjoy a wide taste in music from baroque music from the 1600's, traditional folk music, prog rock, synth pop, world, country, extreme metal, punk and lots of other styles and nothing sounds dated or "weathered" to my ears.

Sony 808 ES Amplifer, PSB imagine B bookshelf speakers, Pro-ject debut carbon turntable, Audiolab 8200 CD player, Pioneer N-50 streamer, Revox B77 1/2 reel to reel player, Sennheiser Momentun headphones and some Atlas cables.
