Will a Blue Ray Player also play a normal dvd disk?

Will a bog standard blue ray player also play a normal dvd disc? In other words, will i have to keep my old dvd player for my non blue ray dvd collection. Also if a blue ray player can play a normal dvd disc, will it also then upscale the playback quality of the normal dvd?
Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,
Yes, every Blu-ray player also plays DVDs - and will upscale them (typically to 1080p), too.
However, check before you buy re multi-region DVD capability. Most Blu-ray players you buy in the UK are fixed as to which 'region' (eg nationality) Blu-ray discs they can play, but you can buy them hacked to play DVDs from all round the world.
Check with your retailer before you buy!
