Why is the 37PX80 so ugly? Nice 32" lCD or ugly 37"plasma?
After reading, reading and some more reading i'm still not sure what to buy....
I have space for a 37", and i'm almost sure that it has to be a plasma: the 37PX80, but......to be really hounest: it's too ugly ! Why didn't they follow the line of the LCD's or the more expensive Plasma's (probably the answer is easy...)? Of course, this is just my oppinion.
So When i'm in a shop, and looking to the 37"plasma, it always want me to buy an nice 32"pana... But i'm not sure which one would be better:
the Pana 32LX80 or the 32LZD80? Do i need full HD on this size? The next upgrade should be a BR-player, something to consider when buying a 32 or 37"(with or without Full HD)?
Or is it smarter to wait for a new pana 37"plasma?
Thanks
Of course, screen quality is the most importatnt thing, but for me also the design counts.
Although the screen of the plasma is superiour, i also like the 32" pana's. But i'm wondering if i need a full hd on that size (32")?

Probably not unless you intend to watch Blu-Rays/ Hi-Def games / Sky HD or Freesat at a very close distance (and I mean very close).
Just had a really good stare at my PX80 and to be honest the ugliest thing was my reflection Sure its not a 'looker' but its more by lack of good looks than any really ugly addition.
Anyway, it hasn't stopped my mate who owns a Sony KDL40W2000 wanting to swap based on picture quality.
As my mother used to say.. ' You don't look at the mantlepiece etc etc' ( Really embarrasing as a teenager with family around)
Looks aren't everything.....unless you talk about picture quality and there the 'bang for buck' is excellent.

Well, i'm planning to buy a blu-ray player (i'm looking forward for the Sc-Bt100, although i hoped is was profile 2,which it isn't). So what is a better choice then: buying a full HD 32", or a HD ready 37"?

well it's true, it's not really that "ugly" (but that is more because my english is not that good
, and i'm not getting anywhere if i'm going to talk Dutch
), but personally it's really a pitty that the design of the 37" is so worse, compared to the 32".

If I were in your shoes, I'd ignore whether they are full HD or HD ready and concentrate solely on which is the better TV for picture for the types of things you will be watching most. Also, if 32" is going to be too small, why even consider it?

I watch Bluray ( PS3) on mine and the picture is very good. The picture quality up to 5 feet away is excellent and you will only see the difference from full HD closer than this. I also game a little and for the money I spent I really can't ask for more.

mmm, i didn't mentioned that 32" is too small, did i?![]()
I do have place for the 37", and because the 32"is almost the same price (or even more expensive) as the 37"and the screen quality of the 37"plasma is nicer compared with an 37"LCD...
But, in a perfect world, i actually would prefer the quality of a plasma fitted in a 32"..
The most i'm going to watch is SD, as there's not that much HD content here in Holland, but as an upgrade for my DVD player i'm planning to buy an all in one BR system as it looks that BR is following DVD up. This because i don't like big components in my room and that's why i prefer an all in one system. Of course sound could be better, but comparded with my '90's-phillips-all-in-one-cd-shuffle- teenager-sound-machine', it can only be better.
Okay, just wanted to make sure you weren't going to look at a 32", prefer the picture, then get it home and think "I wish I'd bought a bigger one".
If I were you, I'd get the TV with the better picture i.e. the 37" plasma. After all, when watching, are you really going to be looking at the design of the TV much? If you are, you probably need to watch something else... ![]()
I must admit, I wpould never buy a TV that I thought was ugly. Its not like you watch it 24/7, and it's gonna be sitting there, being ugly the rest of the time.
It's like buying an ugly car, you don't even see it when you drive, but you just don't buy it!
Hmmm, bit different to a car IMO in that everyone else sees you in your car and it's about image (not all of it, but there is definitely some part of you which is concerned about how others see you). Anybody who sees my TV is either someone I know well enough to know they won't judge me by having an ugly TV as long as the picture is good, or they are there to nick it...

Equally, you don't sit for hours looking at the tv whilst it's turned off contemplating it's aesthetics, do you ? I mean there is a degree to which the name badge style or the width of bezel will keep a persons attention, isn't there ?
I agree the PX80 is not as shiny as some and the name isn't in relief but the basics (it's black, rectangular and not too bulky) mean it doesn't offend whilst keeping costs down. A bit like the Skoda Octavia compared to the ... well everything really...... its not startling but nor is the price.
I can not understand this obsession with looks when buying a TV. Quality of picture is the important thing. But then again ,they all look like large, rectangle framed black boxes to me.
Don't get me wrong. If I bought the Kuro and it looked like my px80 then I'd be a little miffed at that money. If the performance was identical on 2 sets I'd take the prettiest as well.
But I'd seriously worried if, whilst about to watch a big game, some one said 'Sorry mate, I'm gonna watch this at home ; the overly cumbersome bezel and the placement of speaker without consideration to the tv's aesthetic balance offends my eyes. As for the overall portly profile ... how can you bare to be in the same house, let alone room as it ?'

The 37PX80 is this years model, so dont wait for a new to come along.
Personally, I concentrate on the beauty of the image on the panel, not the frame or the stand.
