Why can't I find any of the Philips recent models in the shops
Hi,
I have been considering going HD for a while - my current living room tv is a toshiba 36 picture frame crt that still works fine but is bulky and will never be HD. My living room will not accommodate a pioneer 50" (well the room might but my marriage definitely won't!!) so I am looking at around a 42 " tv. Having been looking for probably 6 months now I am strangely drawn to philips. I have looked at sony and Panasonic but the detail on the philips seems the best. Motion blur is my main concern with going for the philips but I believe that recent models like the 9703 have pretty much nailed this however I'd like to see this model - or even better the 9803 - in action before I splash the cash. However I can't find these models in any of the high street stores (currys, comet, john lewis). I contacted Philips via their website and they responded that ‘we don't hold such information' - great customer service.
Does anybody know of any high street stores that have the 9703 on show? And does anyone know when the 9803 will be out - and where?
Thanks.
It should be in stores anyday now.
It has really vibrant colours and never before seen black levels & bright areas with LCD.
Although there are issues with clouding (looks similar to backlight bleeding) , on certain situations with small bright areas on a black background.
there's a lack of anything in the high street at the moment "ie" currys and so on mail order you can get what you want..but i want to see the set..
i have been looking for quite a few months for my 'ultimate' screen, phillips has a great reputation for them, but, there aftter-sales service isn't supposed to be very proffesional.Having been to quite a few shops, sevenoaks, euronics and local shops,i have found that a lot of these retailers will not deal with them(i live around the guildford area).House of frasier is the only store i have found that will recomend phillips and sell all models.I'm waiting to see the manager(who apparently advocates the brand) and ask him personally about his experiance.Still,i feel very reluctant towards buying a phillips, but,i will ask,and look forward to a positive answer, even after all my searching, it is the only one.(very sorry about spelling, grammer, etc, typed very quickly after a few glasses of wine)
yeah i bought some analogue cables of them a year ago and never dealt with them before and i can recommend them got my cables quickly.
I got my 52PFL9703 yesterday having had a 52PFL9632 previously.
Movement on all sources especially 1080p @ 24hz is ten times better.
The much higher 55.000:1 contrast ratio also mkes the experience way bettr with no real visible crushed blacks and the next best thing to LED backlighting (9803).
Overall i'm loving this LCD and find myself wanting to watch movies i've seen too many times already.
I've seen ratings for this display online @ 8/10 and i would definately give it 9/10.
Best display i've ever bought.
Gaming lag is so much better too , my scores in COD:WAW for eg. have doubled and i'm consistantly getting in the top scores , wheras with the 9632 i was awful and was constantly being killed.
Just out of interest willie, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your set and where from since models of this size are rare to find?

Well, no.
I`m in the same situation. Got my eye on the 37" 9603 but can`t find it in any high street shops. At the moment you can only buy them from online stores such as RGB, Hi-Fi Confidential (best price with 5yr guarantee at the moment), Cheap Electricals etc.
I spoke to my local John Lewis and the chap in the tv department said that he didn`t think they would be stocking the larger more expensive models because they need to buy in bulk in order to offer competitive prices. Too much competition from the cheaper best sellers such as Sony and Panasonic.
I`m going to give it another month or so and see if the situation changes at all.
Anyone had any dealings with Hi-Fi Confidential?
