Which 37" Screen???? (40" including Sony)
English

Hi guys,

Am looking at investing in a new screen and have come up with a shortlist

 Samsung LE37R88BD

Toshiba 37X3030

 Panasonic 37PX70

Sony KDL40W200

Sharp LC37XD1E

Philips PF9731

I will be running Sky+SD and an X-Box 360 Elite and possibly upgrading my DVD collection to HDDVD.

Am slightly leaning towards the Plasma even tho it is not true HD 1080p as I watch a lot of sport.

Any recommendations are welcome such as is it wiser to go for 1080p for future proofing???

Or as a last resort wait a few weeks for the new Panasonic TX37LZD70 to hit the market!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

Scott

I'd pick the 37in Panasonic plasma from those - looks excellent with everything you throw at it, and excels with sports and gaming due to excellent motion-handling.

But if you're willing to wait to see what the next-gen sets have to offer, it's not a bad plan - even if you do end up with the Pana plasma, it's only gonna get cheaper!

Thanks Clare, much appreciated i definitely think I will Stick with the Panasonic Plasma as first choice thus far.

But am going to wait till the New Pana 37" LCD before parting with the Hard Earned!!!!!!!

Do you have a date for its release????? Any word on the street as to its quality????

It would have to be at the very upper echelons of LCD performance if it were to beat the plasma for the elements important to you (particularly fast-motion handling). Will be very interesting to see how much difference the 1080p spec makes on a screen of that size (I suspect very little).

Still no precise news re availability - haven't found anyone with it in stock yet. One online retailer is quoting it at @ £850 plus delivery for advanced orders. We'll keep you posted!

Having took a trip into Currys today I had the opportunity to check all 3 current plasma models out side by side now just to decide which one

PX70, PX700 or PZ70E having had the tape measure out i can fit in a 42" screen.

Do you think its worth stretching for the full HD model or either of the other 2?????

Unless you're going to watch wall-to-wall 1080p, the HD Ready set will be fine - the differences between the two are slim (no pun intended). The main difference between the 70 and 700 are extra connectivity (extra HDMI SD card) and better sound - you need to work out whether they're worth the premium to you.
