Hi,

I'm looking at buying my first LCD TV, I thought my old TV would never give up!

I have narrowed it down to 4:

  • Toshiba 32C3030DB
  • Sony KDL32V2500U
  • Philips 32PF9641D/10
  • Philips 32PF9731D/10

I have 2 questions:

  1. Is there that much difference between the 2 Philips in terms of quality?  As there is a big difference in price
  2. Which TV would you recommend?

The Philips 32PF9731D is absolutely brilliant and we gave it 5 stars in January - it's one of our favourite sets. It delivers fantastic pictures from standard and HD material. Afraid I don't know how the 9641D model differs, probably best to check out the Philips website (www.philips.co.uk).

Sony sets are usually very good, if a little pricey, but we haven't tested the V2500U model yet. The Toshiba is a very good first time buy, and obviously a lot cheaper at £700 than the £1700 Philips (although you'll probably find both for less if you shop around).

It all depends on your budget/requirements. If you just want a good-value set for day-to-day TV viewing, buy the Tosh. If you want the very best picture to go with your home cinema system, buy the Philips.

Hi

I also looking to get a 32" TV. I wanted to buy the Philips after your review in the mag but discovered it was too large for the space we have - has to be 80cm or less.

That leaves Sony, Samsung and Tosh. Happy to spend the money but not sure which one to go for.

One added element of confusion is that I live in Switzerland and the model codes they have out here are different from the UK. For example, Samsung have lots of R8 variations.

What do you recommend?
