What's the best place to sell a television?
I'm considering selling my eighteen-month-old Panasonic TX-P42V20, as I want a larger screen and could use the money toward a newer model, probably a 50GT50.
I could go the ebay route, but they tend to take too large a chunk of the money to make this worthwhile. Perhaps I could try Gumtree? I'd consider the local rag, but the classified section's quite limited and I'm not sure an ad for a high-end plasma would generate much interest.
Has anyone sold a used television recently? If so, where did you advertise? I'm also wondering what would be a reasonable price for a 42V20 (in perfect working order, immaculate condition, with no floating blacks)?
All advice/suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks, that sounds like a good call. While I often check out their reviews and threads, I've never ventured into the classifieds section. I'll take a closer look. I might even get a good sense of a suitable price...
I've had success on Facebook market place with electronics. No fees, and more than likely it will go to a friend of a friend.

If you don't get one from your research, you'll get one once you post, trust me! Very knowledgable market and they will pounce on the price of any previous sales as a maximum for yours. Excellent chance of a sale and a good buyer, but you may get a bigger price on eBay. I'd go with avforums but worth bearing in mind.

That sounds a reasonable use of Facebook, though I abstain on general principle (to the annoyance of friends and family).
Appreciate the pointer, though...

As I understand it, I'm under no obligation to sell on avforums after listing an item (I may be wrong here)? If so, it would seem a sensible place to start. By the time ebay deduct listing and final valuation fees, I'd probably be no better off anyway.
Cheers for the advice.
Correct, no obligation, tho you can't advertise elsewhere at the same time.

Ah nice one, the GT50 is brilliant and you can't go wrong with John Lewis. They say on the receipt if you are not happy just phone up and they will collect or replace it. I sold my Pioneer on eBay but like the others are saying AVForums is another great place to sell it.
A 42V20 sold for £370 on avforums last month, with four years left on the warranty (I didn't take out an extended warranty, so presumably I'd be doing well to get the same price).
I'm starting to wonder if it's worth selling the V20 at all. Perhaps a modest contribution from family would lead my old TV to a better home.
Just out of interest, Gel, what did you get for your Pioneer on ebay (if that's not too prying a question, no problem if you'd rather not say)? I know there's no direct comparison with a potential price for a V20, but it might give me some indication of what second-hand high-end plasmas sell for on ebay these days.
Cheers.

Don't worry, Gel, I had a scout on ebay and I'm not sure things look too promising there, either. It's a tough one...

Nah it is okay I sell quite a few things and mainly use eBay but have also used AVForums too (I post under Thegelman on AV). On eBay I got £500 for my Pioneer - sold it just before Xmas last year. It did have a few issues which I mentioned in the listing though. I had something like 40 watchers. My Sony 46hx803 got £500 from eBay too. My Philips 32pf9731d got £200 for it. If you need any more info just ask.
Cheers.
When I was going to sell my Kuro earlier in the year I was going to use AVForums, as I'm fed up of Ebay taking such a big percentage of the money.
I think the Facebook idea sounds good too, though I abstain for (probably) the same reasons as you.
Gumtree is an option, and don't dismiss the local rag, there's still loads of people who buy via them as they don't have internet access.
I always try to sell my old tvs and electronic goods to my dad or brother first, so family and friends is a good option, and less hassle on the whole.

Cheers Gel. I think I'll try the family route first (though everyone's away at the moment, so I'll wait for family members to return).
Looking at the John Lewis website, I can get the 50GT50 for £1199 with a free Panasonic soundbar. I could sell the soundbar, as I don't need it, which would contribute toward the overall cost (albeit after the fact).
BBB, if family/friends are not interested, I'll give the local rag a shot, then try ebay (with a reserve price). If still no joy, I'll give avforums a punt.
A plan of action's starting to come together.

With the soundbar included - sounds like a really good deal.

I'm not sure I can claim the free 3D glasses when buying the TV with the free soundbar. Curiously, the free 3D glasses are not mentioned in the 50GT50 listing with the free soundbar, but are included in the listing without the soundbar (which is also £1,199).
Since Panasonic's 3D glasses redemption offer is extrinsic to store processes, it should still be possible to claim. A quick call to John Lewis is in order to confirm...

hey try AVForums ive sold a few bits on there with no probs and no fees!
