Upscaling at Smart TV

I bought a new Sony TV (KDL-40HX853) and assumed it can upscale DVDs (movies) automatically, but I have 2 questions:-

Can it upscale automatically on (underlined below) :

1) My old family DVDs which were recorded in Digital - 8 tapes and copied into DVDs in XP mode;
2) The live TV programme (not in HD) from my Satellite top box (Chinese channel), which is connected to the Sony TV via SCART lead but cannot be upgraded into HD by paying more subscription.
