I have a new LED TV - Toshiba 40TL968B, and would like to improve the sound.

I already have a Denon AVR-1602 receiver and Panasonic DVD recorder DMR EX773EB and speakers.

I connected the receiver to the TV via a standard HiFi cable and the DVD via a scart lead – just as it was on my old TV.

This setup worked ok on that, but with the Tosh I can’t get sound through the speakers while it’s on. But if TV is off, I get sound from the DVD recorder (which has Freeview).

Does anyone have any ideas how to get the TV sound through my speakers?

Thanks..

Check your TV's sound menu. What options do you see there & what's selected?

Stable Sound (off)

Audio level offset

Ok, so the TV speakers should be off if you want sound from the surround system.

Next, what cable connects your TV to your AV receiver? What do you mean by "Hi Fi cable"? What does it look like?

The Hi Fi cable is a basic lead with 1 red and 1 white plug at each end,

Ok, having looked at the picture of the connections in your Toshiba, it appears that the RCA sockets (red & white) are INPUTS & not OUTPUTS. So it won't be possible that way.

You have 2 options:

1) Connect your TV to your receiver via Digital Audio out port in your TV.

2) Connect your TV via headphone jack using jack to RCA cable.

Thanks for that.;

1) I don't see an audio out socket on tv - can you?

2)  I guess this means finding a lead with headphone jack on one end and red/white plugs on the other (excuse me if I'm being simple here).

1) It's the Digital audio port next to HDMI 3. Use this cable.

Connect it to "Digital Optical In" in your Denon.

2) Yes, you're correct.

How many speakers have you got? Bear in mind that with RCA, you'll get only stereo sound. Use Digital Audio for Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

Yes, & it's located next to HDMI 3.
