Exactly gel, it's not as if there are no other tvs to choose from. The GT50 seems the ideal alternative to me if you just can't wall mount the HX853 or simply don't like the tilt on it, i know you are over the moon with yours as I am with the 46HX853 and either tv represents one of the best tvs in their fields (Plasma and LED) for years and either is bound to make you very happy if you bought one.

I firmly beleive in this day and age that there is a tv out there for everyone and it's well worth considering a 4 star tv as it may well suit you perfectly and bag a bargain at the same time...perhaps it's the reviews at fault here? I'm wondering if a 5 star tv comes under more scrutiny simply because it's rated so highly?

Either way I'm not fussed...I'm happy and you are happy and that's all that matters really Smile

Well I have been looking at the GT50 but there are problems with some sets being reported by people on other forums.

I think Gel has stated he is on his 3rd set, the previous two being exchanged for the same fault.

I sometimes think the TV manufacturers are getting consumers to do their quality control for them.

Is it just me or am I the only one that sees this...you don't have to use the stand at all, just wall mount it and job done! That's exactly what I done as I simply didn't need/want the speaker stand as I've got a decent speaker package already and the tv is great with no tilt, job done. I really don't see what all the fuss is about personally unless wall mounting simply isn't option or am I missing something here?

Thats actually the point Oldboy, wall mounted really is not an option for us.

There is another option as discussed in another thread that covered this exact issue, I will dig out the link for you and post it for you to look at.

laserman16,

As discussed in the 46HX853 without soundbar thread this solution was found to the plinth and wall mounting problem:

http://www.theplasmacentre.com/tv-stands-and-av-racks/table-top-stands/tv05-table-top-stand.html?menu=hp_feature

Of course it means a bit extra outlay but it's worth considering as it essentially turns the tv into one with a normal stand, hope it helps.

I would still be over the moon with any of those sets I sent back, I just wanted a perfect one.  These Panasonics are the most issue free TV (or certainly up there with the best), I have seen three at close hand and the picture on all of them has been amazing.

gel, just out of interest what was wrong with your other GT50s? I've not seen any reported issues like laserman16 points to so i'm in the dark here, all I know about are the issues reported with the GT30 which I presume are not apparent on the GT50 which is a lovely tv btw.

Buzzing!  First one would buzz on and off, second all the time!  Third one is quiet.  Apart from that all are perfect!

Gels problem I think was buzzing. Other problems reported include DSE, IR and problems with stripng when watching football although that may come in with the DSE.

Sony have clearly done a great job with the performance of thier award winning 40' and 46' 853 TV's this year, but have they dropped a clanger by sticking with the 6 degree tilt and the plinth sound bar stand?

Are they stupid to offer such a great TV in a 'marmite' frame?

its putting me right off.........so am I alone?

will they drop it next year? (Maybe Andy or any of the team have an opinion?)

would they sell more if more standard?

hhhhhmmmmmm

To be fair to Sony, I don't think their stand is any worse than the new LGs, and the more recent Samsungs.

Don't get why people like the Samsungs at all, I'd never buy one of their tvs while they have the base of a seventies swivel armchair on the base.

I like the seventies armchairs though. :)

Blimey I wasn't aware of all that...kind of makes me think I done the right thing in getting the HX853 but then gel only had an issue with buzzing so I still wouldn't rule it out personally as he is more than happy with his and hasn't reported any of those issues. My HX853 does have some DSE at times like when watching the footie or when one colour is displayed and the camera pans horizontally but as I understand it this is not considered a fault but I've not enquired about it to confirm this but apart from that it's great.

Yeah with those other issues you just have to be careful with the TV.  These issues are really slight problems, not big ones.  You can still purchase this TV without any concern.  Trust me you will love it!

Oldboy.

I was not knocking the PQ of the 853 as the ones I have seen instore have had a very good picture. My only gripe was the plinth as stated previously.

After all the problems you had with your GT30 I'm glad you have now got yourself sorted with the Sony.

Yeah I don't like the Samsung TV stand either.

I would say this year has been the most issue free with problems compared to other years with TVs too.  Sony had the mark issue last year and Panasonic had 50 hz issues, green blobs etc etc, this year the problems are barely noticeable.
