Sony HX853 "Super resolution for game mode"?
Hi,
I have been looking at the specs for the Sony HX853 and came across this picture spec “Super resolution for Game Mode”. I have been looking for info on this and have come up with nothing
Does anyone know what this super resolution for game mode is, and what it means for gaming on this TV?
Thanks for your time, Jason
Thanks for the reply.
I too have been searching for any info on this. The only reference I could find was on an Italian gaming forum that talks of TVs having this "super resolution" as a method for the TV to resolve more lines of motion compared to the usual 300 for LCD in game mode. They mention the HX853 (HX855 in their case) as resolving 800 lines in game mode (last page).
Here's the forum but you will need to use google translate (unless you're fluent in Italian!)

I have never heard of anything like that, if this was the case, I'm sure the gaming community would have jumped all over it.
Cheers, J
Good work with the forum link
Hmmmm i find this very strange, so it's automatically turned on when you go into either of the game modes and can't be turned off but i remain confused as to it's use...surely if the tv is showing a HD image at 720p, 1080i or 1080p then it's simply showing the image as it was rendered in the first place? Resolving lines of motion is a term i've simply not come across before so it's interesting to hear that and will require me to research it further to get an understanding of what is going on.
There is also a mention of other tvs having a similar feature as towards the beginning of the thread a Phillips tv is reported as having this feature so it may well be the case that this is not a new bit of tech and has been around for a few years now, it's really interesting so i will research it further and many thanks for starting the thread as i would have been blissfully unaware of it without you bringing it to my attention.

I have the 46HX853 and i can find no mention of this in any of the literature that came with the tv or within the imanual that is built into the tv, i can find reference to it on the Sony website in the tech specs but i have no idea what it is...this is the first time i have even heard of such a feature on the tv and i'm a gamer.
The tv has two seperate game modes, game original and game standard so i'm wondering if these have anything to do with it...it would seem very strange if it was some sort of processing going on as you turn all that off when gaming as it simply leads to a loss in picture quality and response times so i'm intrigued to find out exactly what this is now. I've tried looking with a google search but there seems to be no mention of it anywhere which makes things even stranger, hopefully someone can enlighten us.
