RE: Plasma Image Retention Opinions Required

Finally look like I'm getting somewhere chaps. Retailor and Panasonic finally agreed to give me my money back, or use it for a gt60 (if they can get one) or spend the extra and get a vt65 or take the cash and run  Smile

Its now decision time

That's great news rocket but it's been a long time coming, you must be exhausted by the continued issues you have had. If it was me I think I would take the refund and get a 2013 tv elsewhere as from your comment there it would seem the chances of your retailer getting you a GT60 are not good at best, the only decision now is what to get.

Will you stay with plasma and go down the GT60 or VT65 route or get an LED? As a gamer myself i'm far happier gaming on my Sony HX853 LED than any plasma tv I have ever owned...how about the Smasung F8500 plasma as another option?

Either way it looks like a good year to buy a tv as there are more quality options on the market than ever before, I just hope that whatever you choose you don't get the sort of issues you have had to date

Cheers oldboy,

my retailer phoned the other day and advised they can only give me another gt50. So that's what's coming in the next few days. I explained my concern about this and that I wasn't to happy giving the problems that ive had and that others have experienced but he advised that unfortunately that's all he can do.  He has however given me a new 5yr warranty with it.  I'll see what happens when it arrives but rest assured ill be monitoring it very closely, esp for the ir issue that only came to light after 5 months.  If I have any issues with it ill be right back on the phone to them.  At least my warranty etc starts from 0 again!

fingers crossed this one has no problems

I wouldn't be very happy with that outcome if it was me, your retailer seems to be unaware of the sale of goods act as you are perfectly entitled to a refund at this point as you have given them ample opportunity to repair your original tv. It's probably more a case of it being cheaper for the retailer to replace the GT50 but i'm just speculating, all I can hope is that the new one is free of faults but judging by the experience of members on these very forums I don't hold out much hope mate.

Hello rocketrazor,

Is it still possible for you to get your money back, rather than another GT50?

Hi oldboy,

i think under the sales of goods act the retailer is also within rights to offer a replacement set. Had the gt60 been out i think they would have given me that.  From the retailers perspective if he has sold 100 tvs and I'm the only one to come back with a problem he will be working on % that my next one will be fault free.  It doesn't mean of course that the other sets aren't faulty, they might just not have noticed the problem! As my warranty is starting fresh again looking over it over the weekend I think it's a fair deal   although granted I would have gone for a different one.  I have been assured that should I have the same issue's again I will be entitled to a refund, or maybe by then the gt60 will be out. I'll be more than happy if I can get a fault free gt50, it's finding one that might be the problem  :wall:

hi son of sj,

i think the gt50 is the retailers preferred route, however if the next one is faulty I should be able to get a refund.

im just hopeful it will be ok when it turns up

All I can say is what I was told by Citezens Advice consumer line when I had the issues with my GT30, I was told that it was me as the consumer that had the choice and not the retailer. After giving the retailer ample opportunity to resolve my issue I was told I then had to tell the retailer how I wanted to proceed, be that a replacement or refund and that I was entirely within my rights to ask for a full refund and if that was my preferred outcome the retailer had to comply.

From the conversation I had with them the retailer only had an obligation to try to repair the original tv and after "reasonable attempts" to repair it I could choose how to proceed by laying down my argument in writing and rejecting the tv under the sale of goods act (which I done). I was given a full refund and went on to buy the Sony 46HX853.

I'm pretty sure you are entitled to a refund in your situation but as you have taken another GT50 it's too late now but with the new warranty added on it represents a good outcome but any assurances over what happens should this one develop a fault should be obtained in writing ideally but let's hope it doesn't come to this and that this GT50 serves you well. When it comes to consumer law if there is one thing my last experience taught me is that you can't ever be over prepared and to know your rights before you engage with your retailer about getting a replacement or refund.

The good news from your point of view is that there are good GT50 examples out there as gel will confirm so the odds are good that this one will be fine, I think you would have to be really unlucky to get another dud. As ever keep in touch if anything should go wrong but in the best way possible let's hope the thread dies soon Smile

RE: Plasma Image Retention Opinions Required

I've been watching my tv over the weekend and although the motion issue is resolved and the 'normal dse' is no longer there I have noticed vertical lines throughout the entire screen and two very wide lighter patches around the centre. This again was most noticeable while watching the football but unlike the original right sided dse these lighter bands can be seen on a dead screen on hdmi 1-4 with no picture  :wall:

think ill be phoning up after the weekend is finished

Had more of a play now and watched more content. Can't notice any issues with films at all on br or other tv program's. f1 was absolutely fine. Played with the settings and think I can get rid of the issues with the football so that its watchable, will test out on Wednesdays game. Fingers crossed as if this alteration works then its a keeper. Funny that the white line patches disappear on a black screen from the br's ie the end credits but are visible on a static screen through the hdmi ports.  Thankfully you can't see them on the borders at the top and bottom of the films.

TBH i notice slight white lines and faint ir on my gt30 when the screen is black(no signal if you like)but as soon as there is a picture then there are no signs of ir.even looking up close to the screen...think too many can get hung up on what's realy a non issue.....hope your tv gives you as much pleasure as mine does for me Smile

My Panasonic plasma is really bad with IR, If I use the menus to adjust a setting, even for a minute or 2, I can still see that menu on the screen afterwards and have to run the white scroller to get rid of it. A tedious process!

High voltage settings don't help either, that's what my first gt50 had, just hope this one doesn't suffer from it as well

It's not a good start to this sets life is it rocketrazor. I feel for you as I know exactly how frustrating it is to get Panasonic plasma tvs with continual problems, I'm just hoping the tv settles down and that these issues can be attributed to the tv being run in for the first 200 hours fingers crossed.

Keep us posted with how the tv peforms going forward and I really hope these are just teething problems and nothing worse

RE: Plasma Image Retention Opinions Required

I've spoken to the retailer today and advised of the issues with the new set. I've advised I'm willing to give it 2-3 months run in to see if the issue disappears.  Frankly I'm not holding my breath.  It's a real shame as I never had this particular fault with my first tv and the picture is superb, issue is I can't watch any football without being extremely disheartened with the light and dark lines that cover the entire screen. If I still have issues ill ask for a refund or a gt60 if they have them.  I wonder if they have the same problems with vertical banding? It's now a waiting game
