Can anyone shed any light on this particular Philips offering?

OK, it doesn't have Ambilight, but does offer full HD - ideal for the SKY HD package I've just signed up to.

It seems to be a bit of a bargain, but can't find any reviews - any thoughts??

Thanks.

Hi there,

Bit of a blank on this one, i'm afraid. We featured it in our TV preview feature in the June issue, but haven't ever seen a review sample from Philips. We're at a Philips event later today, so I'll chase it up with them....

Im not familiar with this particular Philips model, but remember that Sky HD doesn't require a Full HD (1080p) screen as HD programmes are broadcast in 720p or 1080i, so an HD-Ready set will do. You'll only need Full HD at this stage if you're thinking of investing in Blu-ray or HD DVD. There are currently no 1080p broadcasts on TV from Sky or anyone else..

Thanks Andy - will inevitably look to buy blu-ray/hd once prices drop a tad and figure that buying a 1080p tele now is the best way forward in terms of 'future-proofing'...

Be carefull that not all 1920x1080 televisions can process/display an 1080p signal. Some sets only display up yo 1080i. (Which - for instance - a Sony PS3 can not output).
