After purchasing my new sony S790 blu ray player, I noticed on the home screen, which is nearly completely black, some green flashing pixels when viewed up close. I cant really notice it from a distance, and it has never interfered with normal viewing. Had a quick google search and found that by reducing the brightness a few notches these flashing pixels are nearly completely gone. I need to use my spears and munsil disc again with my new blu ray player, to see if my brightness and contrast are set ok. Is this normal for a plasma? or is it a defect?

Well, I would consider it a defect, but Panasonic may consider it within spec.

Where did you buy the TV from? Is it still under warranty?

I got the tv a year past on December from Sevenoaks, it has a 5 year warranty. I would never have noticed this until i got my new blu ray player, its because the menu is nearly black. I cant see it from a normal viewing distance. If I put the brightness down one notch from my calibrated settings the green pixels go away, but I might be crushing shadow detail as a result. When watching movies from viewing distance I can never notice it, only if i go right up close to the tv.

Fortunately it sounds like a very minor problem.

If it was me, I'd still give Sevenoaks a call. You paid for that extended warranty for a reason.
