NICE NEW HD 50"" PLASMA BUT IS UPGRADEING MY DVD PLAYER A WASTE OF MONEY???

I Recently put my old series 5 Panasonic 42"" plasma out to graze as such and treated myself to the What Hi-Fi award winning Samsund PS-50Q97HDX but am now wondering if I need to upgade my dvd player or would I just be wasting my money??

I curently have a multi-region Pioneer DV757Ai hooked up to the Samsung via QED component cables. Now I know my Pioneer has no HDMI or upscaleing but the screen upscales the incoming progressive image and to be honest the pictures are excelent, but would spending say £600 on the likes of the Marantz DV7001 and a quality HDMI cable improve the image consideribly enough to justify (to the wife!) the £600?
