Cloughie beat me to it, but I was going to say the same thing - it's remarkable how many pieces of kit we get in don't actually work properly when we get them out of the box.

You'd expect manufacturers, as you say Spiny, to have given us the best product they possibly can. It's not always the case, by any means.

That's a bit rubbish, really, isn't it, not to mention rather shocking? Guess it just goes to show many companies just don't give a stuff, as you'd expect the big ones to have a department, or at least a couple of people, to ensure their 'press fleet' was performing as well as possible before it was sent out for testing.

If they're that slapdash with products likely to get a lot of attention from testers, just goes to show it's just the luck of the draw whether we poor bloody consumers get a decent one or not.

Hi rocketrazor. Apologies for the delayed reply, but I've been finishing my scribblings for the April issue of the mag.  As I understand it, some of the flagship sets won't be available for a little while yet, so I think we'll probably be looking at either the W85, W8 or below to start with...

Are you definately buying a new tv this year rocketrazor, my advice is to wait untill late summer when most tv's have hit the shops and dropped a little in price, it also gives you a chance to look round and make your mind up.

not certain, I think the most likely scenario is 2015 or 2016. The better half wants the bathroom, drive and garden done before I can get a new tv. I think my next one will be a 4k one though

are you thinking of buying 2013 tvs at end of line or 2014 tvs when it comes out? 2014 tvs will be very over priced to start with, I'd never buy a new model now, wait till at least August for the summer bank holiday sales. Old stock good time to buy now. Can get some 55" tvs well within your budget

You'd be surprised how often companies don't do that. For example, some speaker manufacturers run in review samples before they send them to us, but some don't. We've had test speakers delivered with the veneer finish peeling off, damaged tweeters, TVs that wouldn't power up, cracked screens, poor backlighting, CD players with CD trays that won't open, amplifiers that have gone pop, all sorts.

And have you mentioned any of these things in your reviews? And if not,why not?

The new KDL-55W955 is already available to buy. The top of the range 4K's will be with us in May and will come in 55, 65, 79 & 85" sizes. The real ground breakers, the 85 series won’t be available until August. Some details are available on some websites.
