We haven't tested the 40V2500 yet, but I have the previous 40in Sony model at home and it's extremely good: I found the step up from a 32in to 40in screen a big improvement. If you want Full HD 1080p capability, it's worth considering the Sony KDL-40W2000 (£1400) which was our TV Product of the Year in 2006.

Frankly I wouldn't bother naffing around with a 40in screen. Go for a good 50-incher - I bought one a couple of years back, and it's amazing just how small a 42in looks when you're used to watching a really big screen.

And now they're about half the price I paid then, I'd find it hard to resist a big Panasonic or Samsung or something like that if I was in your shoes. I've seen a 50in new-model Samsung for under £1200, which is a serious steal.
