Returning home from the flicks last night the babysitter reported bizarre picture source swapping shennanigans which he attributed to an iffy sky box .I checked it out as being OK before going to bed. This morning, my lad wanted to play Little Big Planet but I could get no picture from the receiver. On investigation I discovered that the new HDMI cable I recently connected to AV4 had snapped and was half in the socket so I suspect some shorting has caused the problem.

The situation is: I have a KDL40V3000 on which two HDMI ports (Av3 & 4) are no longer working.

Scart on AV2 and the 3rd HDMI connection, AV7 work fine, both tuners are OK and the TV is working perfectly well otherwise. As I was only using one HDMI connection anyway, in theory I could live with things as they are using AV7 henceforth. It's just...well, knowing it's not fully functional would always annoy me!

My diagnosis suggests that the AV3 and AV4 HDMI ports need replacing and I assume this would be a single circuit board for both ports. If so, can anyone advise on the following:

  1. Approximate cost for parts and labour to replace

  2. Can this be performed by a visiting engineer or does the TV need to be taken to a service centre ?

  3. Recommend a service engineer in the Reading area (if it comes to it, I'll deliver the TV to Sony at Viables in Basingstoke if they can do the repair there!)

Any advice welcome, whether trade or otherwise, our Sony Centre friends included!

having read your post i would go to sonys website  to look for support number and see if they can  suggest a local engineer that deals in sony or call into a sony centre if you have one

The only people who will be able to repair it will be your local authorised repair agent, which you can find by visiting www.sony.co.uk and clicking through on to the 'Support' tab.

Those HDMI ports are on the same board as each other and it should be a fairly easy fix, but it will have to go on a static bench at the repair facility.

Cost wise I'm not sure but I doubt you'll get any change out of £200.

Thanks for the responses...at that sort of cost I think I'll probably live with just the one HDMI port operable!!
