How to operate upscaling at SMART TV

I recently brought a new SONY TV (KDL-40HX853) and watched 2 DVD's on a Panasonic Blu-Ray Recorder (DMR-BWT720EB).

I then watched 2 DVD's, (Grease) and the other one was (James Bond-Quantum of Solace.) Grease contained a lot of pixels whilst Quantum of Solace contained minimum pixels.

But my main question is, does the SMART TV and Blu-Ray automatically set the upscaling or do I have to set it up myself? For I could not find the word upscaling on both working manuals.

Many thanks!!

RE: How to operate upscaling at SMART TV

Just had a quick look at the manual and the settings you’re looking for are on page 94 under “HDMI Video Format”

Set to “Automatic” and your player will do the upscaling. Somewhere in that settings menu there will/should be manual output resolution settings, so if you select 576 this means your TV will do the upscaling. Simply select which looks best.

Hope this helps.
