Myself and my husband are looking to at last upgrade from our CRT Phillips set to a brand new HD 40" LCD TV.  However we are very confused with all the differing reviews and technical information! We are going to upgrade to Sky HD but will mostly be watching normal SD Sky.

We have looked at both the Samsung LE40M86BD and the Sony KDL-40W2000 but the reviews are so different and none of them give a conclusive answer as to what normal Sky channels will look like.  I am frightenend to spend a lot of money and find that on a day to day basis the picture quality is poor.  We obviously want the HD to be brill as well, and are only looking at the 1080p models.

Please help!!

Both of these seem to offer about as good as you will get from LCD at the moment. the latest X series Toshiba is also attracting interest.

If you really want the best SD picture, probbly better opting for a panasonic plasma?

If you're not desparate to splash your cash, we're planning a Supertest of 40-42in models - LCD and plasma, including all the new big-name sets - in our November issue, which despite its name is on sale in September.
