"Ghosting" on brand new LG plasma?
Hi,
I've just bought a new LG 50PC56 plasma from Dixons for the "boys" room.
I've only used it for 20 odd minutes but it has become apparent that some images 'stay' on the screen (albeit very faded) for a minute after they're supposed to have disappeared.
It's mostly where there has been white lettering on a black background - extremely noticable on the kids wii games for instance.
Is this normal for a plasma or have I got a faulty one?
Cheers for your help!
It doesn't happen on my Pana
Maybe worth looking at this article regarding screen burn which I've just seen.

Nothing whatsoever to do with screen burn. The problem is almost certainly due to having the contrast and brightness of your panel up too high, along with some unnecessary picture processing options switched on.
If you haven't changed the factory settings since it came out of the box do so straight away. Avoid "dynamic" mode presets, they are invariably EDITED. Set up your telly with a dvd test disc. If you have any THX movies every disc comes with a basic calibration tool on the dvd menus. This will help a lot.
Thanks for the replies - I've changed the picture settings to "mild" and while the problem hasn't completely gone away, it's much better.
The "burn in" only seems to last for a few minutes before disappearing.
While I'm here, I've connected the kids Wii up to the TV: Is it normal for everything to appear "soft" for a split second before going into focus? I figured this may have something to do with the cheap Wii cable so I've just ordered a component video cable in the hope that this problem disappears.
What setting do you have your Contrast and Brightness on? Also what about the Sharpness setting?
For the first 100 or so hours of use with a Plasma you should keep both Contrast and to a slightly lesser extent Brightness at reasonibly low settings as this is when a Plasma is at it's most vulnerable to screen burn but the issue you have with tempory image retention is not screen burn but may very well be down to having these settings too high, try adjusting them down and see if the problem is still there.
As for you Wii problem chances are the the arrival of the Component cable will sort out any problems. I have a Wii conected to my 50"" Plaz via Component and the picture is very crisp and clear.
If the problems with the ghosting do persist I advise contacting LG to arrange a visit so a engineer can check your set, I spotted a slight problem on my Samsung recently and the end result is that I am getting a replacement set as it turns out there was a fault within the screen.
Lastly I strongly reconmend a good set up DVD like digital video essentials (http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/121810/Digital-Video-Essentials/Product.html) which will assist you in setting up you Plasma correctly.
Thanks again to all - the component cable certainly sorted out the Wii "focus" problem - infact it looks bloody great!

I have seen the same thing on my new Panasonic TH42PZ70. Even after about 5 minutes. I'm not sure this is normal either.
