Saw 4k for the first time today in the John Lewis store in Edinburgh ,ok it's a bit sharper they were feeding the tv 4k content on a loop but after earth and total recall weren't much better than what I already have ,the colours did pop but is it because the tv was in store mode i dont know,I know you don't get the benifets of 4k until you get to the 80inch point but how many people can accommodate an 80inch tv let alone afford one.now I've seen what all the fuss is about I'm happy to stick with my ZT until something worth upgrading to comes along.

looks like oled is done before it even started ,its far to expensive to produce and plasma oled is still in the prototype stage ,so 4k looks to be the dominant force in the tv wars ,a few Japanese firms are even skipping 4k altogether and going straight to 8k for the 2020 Olympic Games .

was expecting to be blown away but I left a little disappointed .

Are you sure it was 4k & not

Are you sure it was 4k & not 1080p, AFAIK current oled models are not 4k.

I don't think "accommodating"

I don't think "accommodating" an 80-inch 4K TV will be a problem. Higher the resolution, closer you can get to the TV, so TV watching experience will enhance due to greatly reduced viewing distance.

Simonlewis is right; current OLED TVs in the market are 1080p only.

RE: 4k I'm not that impressed

Honestly, i have heard loads of ZT owners say how 4k doesn't impress & they are keeping their ZT for a few years etc...

http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/9/4710040/lg-4k-oled-mainstream-plans

Sounds like ZT owners are trying to convince themselves it was a worthwhile move.. Which it might well have been don't get me wrong.

Just enjoy a beautiful TV as theres loads of time yet for 4k/4k oled to settle into the market. Smile

I saw a 55" samsung at john

I saw a 55" samsung at john lewis on monday (OLED tv) for £7000 i realised then it would be out of date as soon as you bought it.
so it's really for people who have £7000 spare cash in their back pocket.
If i were you i would wait a couple of years before purchase.

Yes I knew oled are only

Yes I knew oled are only 1080p but the tv I saw was the Sony Bravia 55inch 4k led it was £3200 ,as for having the ZT I'm very happy with it BUT there is very little diffrence between the ZT and VT in the dark it only maintains its black levels in brighter rooms and the VT is available in 65 and is 800 quid cheaper so even tho I have the ZT the majority of people would be wiser to go with the VT.............didn't do myself any favours there .........the ZT also smells Smile

RE: Yes I knew oled are only

I've seen that very same 55" 4K Sony in the very same John Lewis. I was more impressed with it than I had been with its 65" big brother in the Sony Centre in Morningside. I was impressed, without being blown away, with the 55" Sony. You, coming from the Panasonic 60ZT65 television that delivers the best 1080p images in the world, bar none, would be less impressed with the 4K 55" Sony than I was.

We wait to see what the new Samsung 55" 4K TV will be like, in shop conditions. It costs the same as the now-reduced £3,299 55" Sony.

Don't get me wrong it was

Don't get me wrong it was very nice but I think I was just expecting a bit more ,very sharp and the colour demo was excellent but it isn't going to make my blu rays look any better ,watched the same scene from the new total recall when I came in tonight after it being fresh in my head and like I said 4k being 4x as sharp I really can't say I noticed much diffrence between my un-calibrated ZT and the Sony 4k.my picture is going to look even better next month when I do get my set calibrated so I can put this 4k thing to bed for a few years I think

Oh by the son of sj I popped into James morrow today on my travels today ,had a good chat with the blokes that worked there ,nothing was set up for demo but I've gave them my details .they are going to phone me when the new yamaha amps come in.

I'm think I'm settled on the yamaha a3030's successor and the monitor audio apex 5.1 possibly 7.1 .

What do you think??

The 4K Sony TVs I have seen

The 4K Sony TVs I have seen were fantastic with motion but black levels not that good. I am still waiting to see an OLED to see if it is a clear winner.

+1, think you'll be really pleased with the results.

Excellent .i thought i was on

Excellent .i thought i was on to a winner with that amp + speaker combo.the yamaha a3030 is a bloody big amp dont know if it will even fit on my rack ,its 44lb aswell.

Nah i was just joking mr malarky i didnt do our camp any favours with my little rant on why many would be wiser to buy the 65 inch vt over the 60inch zt.

Youve had yours calibrated i would love to have seen your calibrated ZT next to that 55 inch 4k sony led in john lewis playing the total recall and after earth demo.

Cant wait to get mine calibrated ,its this time next month steven withers is coming so not long to go now.

We should probably quietly admit to ourselves that the Vt65 is the more sensible choice all round; we just need to make sure we don't admit that in public...

Anyway, we can always console ourselves with the way it says "studio master panel" for a few seconds every time it's switched on (sad, I know, but part of me still gets a little kick out of that every time!).  Smile

When are the amp and speakers arriving?

4k I'm not that impressed

I popped into Currys earlier today, they had the 65 Samsung 9000 series 4k next to the Sony equivalent (55 though). The Samsung had a rolling demo which I have to say looked astounding. The Sony was showing the After Earth clip, which didn't. The one comparative review I've read states that the Samsung does a better job upscaling all sources, but the Sony has better colours. I've also been told by the guys at the Sony centre in Welwyn that there is a live update to enable HDMI 2.0, and I've seen on the web that Samsung's solution is imminent. I don't think there's any rush without any native content! I'll stick with what I have ta very much.

RE: Excellent .i thought i was on

Lol yes the "studio master panel" logo does make it look a bit special ,gonni have to get rid of that MySpace logo that pops up tho and you don't happen to know how to shut off the stand by light I've got a stupid little bit of black card on it just now so everything is completely black when watching a movie.

as for the new amp and speakers I'm just waiting for a phonecall to tell me when there in ,a quick demo and I should be set.

like Roundhead 5000 said the 4k tv he saw aswell had a 4k demo on a loop ,I'm gonni go back to John Lewis with the avengers on blu ray .i know that the film is almost a flawless transfer so I'm gonni ask to see it on the 4k tv obviously it won't be upscaled to 4k but just to see if it looks any diffrent whatsoever.
