Is this possible? Would the results be better than cd's, data files etc?

Yes but you'll need a phono stage. I can't remember if the 2311 has one built in but if it doesn't you'll need to buy one, or a turntable that includes one (some Pro-Ject TTs do, don't about any others).

that depends entirely on how much you're prepared to spend on the TT, phono stage etc.

The AVR-2311 doesn't have a built-in phono stage, so you'd either have to use a turntable with such a stage built-in, or an external phono stage between turntable and amp. After that it would act like any other line-in source, the quality being dependent on the performance of the turntable and phono stage employed.

Would the rega Rp1 & rega fono mini a2d be a compatible set up with the denon?
