The best vinyl quality i've heard yet
All I can say is WOW [:D]
After being totally blown away by its use in a demo at CES, I picked up a copy of Nat King Cole - Love is the Thing on heavyweight vinyl. It's an audiophile pressing of the original album (stunningly recorded at Capitol) that runs at 45rpm, with only @three tracks per side (so the original two-sided album is now spread over four sides).
The mastering/pressing is by Analogue Productions - more info here
I love Nat King Cole, and this is the best i've ever heard him sound. Truly magical, goosebump-inducing stuff.
And I picked up this album and other in the series for $50 each[Y]
A brilliant way to cope with raging jetlag...
Covered elsewhere, but to recap/update: at the moment I am listening to a Clearaudio Performance turntable with Satisfy Carbon direct wire arm and Concerto cartridge. Clearaudio Basic II phono stage.
That's fed into a Leema Tucana MkII amplifier and onto Mordaunt Short Performance 6 floorstanders. Chord Chorus interconnects and QED Genesis Biwire speaker cable.
Other sources include the Leema Antila II CD player, Revox B77 reel to reel and Nakamichi Dragon cassette player. Oh, and a NAS drive full of FLAC files.
wow, that's quite a setup, i'll have a look at the reviews, thanks clare![]()
Nat King Cole has a voice like velvet doesn't he?
When I was a kid in the seventies and into Slade, Sweet, Mud & the like my dad used to listen to Nat King Cole, who I dismissed as slow sentimental rubbish. But as you grow up and get older and your tastes mature you really get to appreciate someone like Nat King Cole
I remember a magazine doing a survey quite a few years ago and they said the artists with the best voice of all time were
3. Frank Sinatra
2. Elvis
1. Nat King Cole
and I think yeah I can go along with that.

They're certainly my favourite three - and oddly enough, i've just listened to all six sides of another of my heavyweight vinyl purchases:
it's nice when you get a result your pleased with and can share the pleasure, iv'e just bought Fire and Water by Free on heavyweight vinyl and it is quite sublime with no noise whatsover but i still like my Ramsey Lewis on chess records better, theres something about the original that just seems more right, like Zeppelin on the plum and orange, virgin vinyl i suppose.

Quelle surprise, double the price on that Amazon link (£72 close enough to $100), I hope you brought enough back for everybody? *stern teacher face*
Maybe one of the benefits of being at a trade show?
Well I got discount for paying cash - but otherwise prices just as iink I provided above (eg $50 for the Nat albums, compared to £70 here). Could be worth shipping from US...

There is a seller on that Amazon linked page selling it, new, for £49 + a quid and a bit for postage.
Plus Acoustic Sounds (whom I bought the vinyl from at CES) will ship to UK

I was trying to find delivery details on that page, but it wants you to create an account first, however given they charge $7.45 for internal shipping it might work out just as expensive!

I'm going to give it a go, and order another of the Analogue Productions 45rpm albums - will let you know how much the UPS shipping works out at.
EDIT - Well i've ordered two albums (one of which is currently out of stock); have received order confirmation with 'shipping total to be determined'. Will update you when I find out!
