replacement cart for ariston
Hi all
i would like some suggestions for a replacement cartridge for ariston rd80 with linn basik plus arm. current cartridge which came with the tt is linn k9.
i want to change cartridge to get a little more from the tt as when i compare the tt to my cd the tt sounds a little restrained can i improve or is this the best it will sound.
not sure of age of current cartridge as came with tt so maybe its worn
Thanks Darren

dont have a budget really not sure what the limit would be for this tt £200??
I would say definitely go for the AT-440ML then - it will give just the sound you seem to be after, and I would say is about the best the Basik Plus can handle.
It also digs loads of detail out of the vinyl, even if the vinyl is a little worn.
Sound Hifi are doing them for £125 at the moment - a very good price and I don't think you'll better it sub £200.
thanks for the input fatboyslimfast

What sort of budget are you looking at Darren?
For up to £80 I would be looking at the Ortofon 2M Red, up to £150 the AT-440ML.
Both have the characteristics you are looking for - and both will be loads better than the K9, which will have had it's day now (both from a design point of view, and the fact that the suspension will be hardening due to age).
