Hi all,  "young" man,  (CD generation) and new to all of this, so bear with me.

I have a Dual 505 (mk2) turntable with the Ortofon EN165E cartridge, however when playing back the sound is bright (too bright) over kill on the trebble and little bass. (I'm listen to Marillions Misplaced Childhood here, not drum and bass.)

Speakers are Tannoy 603s and sound much better on CD/Tape/Tuner than with the turntable where everything becomes very "weedy."

Amp is an Accoustic Sollutions SP100 (I know... I know...) but seeing as it doesn't sound so bad on all other channels I wondered if anybody has any suggestions.  Is this a problem with how I've set up the turntable?

Any suggestions greatly received!

Regards,

Andy

Sounds like the amp doesn't have a phono stage. Is it also much quieter than other inputs?

Cheers John,  yes, the amp has a phono stage (and an earth for the turntable) but it is very quiet.

I've just plugged the turntable in to a different (Denon) amp with a phono input,  where the turntable sounds "like it should",  however if I plug it in to an "Aux" in,  it gives the same symptoms as "my" amp on the Phono channel

Time for a new amp methinks,  would the signal from a turntable be a passive one I'm guessing?  Forgive me for the stupid question but I am very new to this.

Regards,

Andy

Hi Benhan 3160 I dont know your amp but it might be that the phono stage has a switch to switch between mm and mc cartridge I think it should be set on mm if there is a switch of coarse:)

I wonder if the amp has an optional phono stage so has the right socket and earth but doesn't have the phono installed. Let me see if I can find some specs...

Google is not being my friend, but there seems to a suggestion of a 'selector switch' which may switch phono in and out, to give an extra line level input if requird. Is there anything that looks like that? Do you have the manual?
