RE: New cart wanted

I don't think 40-50 is soooo bad, though a bit pricey if you've purchased the cart from them.

It takes more than 15 mins if you're taking your time - plus the use of the scale and the years of experience of setting it up - not that bad really.

Though I would say that doing it yourself is probably the best bet - you'll learn how it ll works.

Having said that - there's the chance of destroying a cart if you bend off the stylus - so the money might be worth it if you've spent a lot on the cart.

Well I am a complete novice, and i fitted the spacer to my RP6 (easy) then fitted a £350 cartridge, my first one ever - and I got it right first time! Yeah I really took my time probably about an hour in all.

I really think if your buying a cart for a few hundred quid then the dealer should fit it free.

RE: New cart wanted

does Nagaoka MP-110 need spacer ? I am going for Nagaoka MP-110  or Ortofon 2M blue 2 different sounding carts but both are apparently better than Elys2 .  Can I use supplied Rega alignment  on all carts ? HiFI news test LP contains some alignments as well , which one to use ?

RE: New cart wanted

Well any non-Rega cart does need a spacer for the arm to be level, this is what I have on my RP6 - but people do use a non-Rega cart without spacer.

http://www.analogueseduction.net/rega-upgrades-parts-accessories/rega-3-...

Easy to fit.

Well regarding your Cart, the 2M Blue is nearly double the MP-110, really the MP-110 is a fanatstic cart for the money and I would go for the Nagaoka any day over the Ortofon so save the money for more vinyl. I have now even moved my 10x5 on and just have the MP-110 on my RP6 and really happy with it.

The Rega Aligment thingy is fine, I used it for my 10x5 & MP-110

If you need any more advice, I will help all I can

I expected 10-15

£40-£50 does sounds a bit high but what can you get a for £10 now, not even a new lp, if he knows what he is doing and has all the right gear then it maybe worth it, maybe its because you did not buy the cartridge through him.

I"ve just purchased Nagaoka mp-110 cart  , next thing Rega multi spacer just in case I'll need higher adjustment in the future .

Tomorrow my HiFi test LP arrives  So I'll be able to test if my setting is ok

Naga mp110 is on the tonearm and playing ,  I've set VTF 1,8 g , aligned according to Rega's supplied protractor , and checked on HiFi test LP

still sometime nasty SSSS  but I'm gonna mess around with VTF and antiskate to eliminate it ,   after first side of Dub side of the moon I can tell it is a better cart than Elys 2 , Thank You for recommendation Stevebrock .   beauty, eh

I've got metal spacer , digital scales , but it tracks well testing tracks on HiFi test LP .

Carpenters - voice of the heart  there is bad sibilance  other LPs sound clear so maybe it's that  record only and are you tracking at 1,8g ?

RE: New cart wanted

I have 1 or 2 records with bad siblance - its the recording, Adele - 19 is terrible so I sent it back.

Tracking at 1.8g as we speak, bias set to 0 and sounds good.

Glad your pleased with the Cart!

Absolutely.

When I bought my new 2M Blue from Doug Brady HiFi earlier this year, Andrew fitted it for me free of charge. I could have ordered one online, saved a fiver, fitted it myself etc. but this gave me a good excuse to go into the shop, have a good browse/chat/cup of coffee etc. and know it was set up perfectly.
