I recently bought L'art du Son fluid to try with my Disco Antistat cleaner and found after cleaning a few LPs that there was a low crackle during quiet passages and on the run-in grooves. Should I also be rinsing with distilled water to get rid of any leftover residue?

Also, with the original Knosti fluid that comes with the machine, is there a set number of times it's advisable to re-use it? I've noticed that even with filtering it changes colour over time so I'm assuming there comes a point where it will damage the records because of the impurities suspended in it.

Knosti

I know of a number of people who have 2 Knosti's, one for cleaning duties, and one for a final rinse in distilled water.

As for fluid, I never bothered with buying the expensive branded stuff, I just made up my own (4 parts distilled water, 1 part ethanol, and a few drops of a wetting agent/rinseaid). Never made the slightest bit of difference, just a heck of a lot cheaper.

Hi ChesterG,

I'm with DIB on this. I  mix my own up which is almost the same as DIB except I mix 3 parts Distilled water to 1 part Iso-Propyl Alcohol (99.5%) and add some photographic wetting agent. I've had no problems with residue and the records come out really clean usually with a lot less surface noise.

I have the Knosti machine and I found that the fluid that comes with it can leave a residue in the grooves.

hope this helps

Steve
