Thanks for the advice, I thought I was losing it! 
I've inherited a lot of vinyl records and have decided I need to get a system to listen to it al on, I have the opportunity to acquire a HMV 4000A amplifier and 4000T turntable for £60. They look in fantastic condition but I can't find any information online other than that they are from the late 70s and the tt is direct drive. Does anybody out there know anything about these separates?
